👥 Residents Unite #1 - Voicing Concerns Over Health and Safety : 15-02-2025

As the Thane-Borivali Tunnel construction continues to gather speed, residents in the area have been faced with numerous safety concerns, traffic congestion, and environmental damage.

In recent weeks, the following things have happened -

1. An accident at the crossroads (credits, picture shared by a resident of Neelkanth Greens)

black car with glass windows shattered. you can also spot a dumper truck parked on the road.

2.  Several big debris trucks are parked illegally and wrongly on both sides by Megha project team (credits, picture shared by a resident of Neelkanth Woods)

parking that increases risks of accidents

3. As per residents observations -

  • At the circle point of Neelkanth Woods, Verraton, Cosmic Lounge, and Neelkanth Greens- the entry gate is blocked by the dumper trucks from 6 PM to 10 PM.
  • This results in heavy traffic and the narrowing of the road, making it difficult and potentially dangerous for residents to enter and exit their society during these hours.
  • Tunnel Project dumper trucks have been driving recklessly in the area, often turning at the circle without using turn signals.
4. One resident  attempted single-handedly to stop the trucks from driving on the wrong side.

he ensured that no trucks cross the circle rashly and complained to the DCP

To address these issues, local residents led by Mr. Anand Rawat organized a gathering at the roundabout opposite Verraton at 10 AM on 15th February, to speak with the project officials.

At the meeting, residents voiced their concerns and demanded measures to be put in place to mitigate the impact of the construction work. As a result of this gathering, project officials verbally agreed upon the following -

  1. Do not start uprooting trees until show the plan of replantation, permission and all process documentation. (Project incharge to discuss with authorities on Mon-Tue).
  2. No parking dumper trucks on the road (agreed with Project Incharge with immediate effect).
  3. Implement dust suppression measures - using continrous water spray. (agreed with Project Incharge with immediate effect).
  4. Display board of SPM to be kept near Verraton entrance for public visibility

While these initial steps are encouraging, it will be essential to continue monitoring the situation and advocating for residents’ safety and well-being.

The next meeting with the project officials will be held on Tuesday-Wednesday in the late evening.
